About the Artist

Jennifer Adejobi is a Freelance Illustrator/Fine Artist from Oakland, CA. At a young age, she learned about the importance of artmaking. At the ages of 12 and 14, Jennifer began to draw and paint. Most of Jennifer’s artworks are based on her dreams and past childhood experiences. As a child and teenager, Jennifer needed a positive outlet and through artmaking, she had found it. Jennifer values the process of artmaking and what it can provide. As an adult, artmaking has become very therapeutic, allowing her voice to be heard, to cope with past traumatic experiences, and to heal from the inside out.

In 2010, Jennifer graduated from The California College of the Arts (CCA) with a B.F.A. in Illustration. After graduating, she continued to work on her techniques as a draftsman while experimenting with various types of styles and mediums. Jennifer has discovered a style of artmaking that she can call her own. In every piece of art, Jennifer has relied heavily on her characters’ interactions with the outside world: its viewers. Most of her characters are left in Ebony pencil.

Jennifer wants the viewers to see each character as an individual, not fully relying on his/or her surroundings to dictate who they are or who they may become. For Jennifer, this style of art-making allows the viewer a chance to ponder over the characters while bringing their own interpretations to life.

Jennifer attended NYU Steinhardt for her Master’s Degree in Art Therapy. She now resides in New York, NY, and teaches art to children in Harlem.
